ABOUT

The Perspective Project is an exploration of how people develop an understanding of the world, with a focus on the effects of content personalization on our ability to empathize with different ways of thinking. Content personalization is a marketing strategy employed by many websites, including social media, that shows specific information to a consumer based on what the user is likely to click on and interact with. In the case of social media, personalization reinforces opinions and perspectives held by the individual, and causes existing divisions to widen. One of the goals throughout the project was to collect diverse opinions in the form of video in order to showcase the differences, but also the similarities, between many groups of people, in the hopes that we will be able to better understand each other.

Sana Shepko is a 2017 graduate of the BFA Graphic Design program at SUNY New Paltz. Her own multicultural background and encounters with different and contradicting beliefs led her to consider the ways that upbringing and social context affects the way we think. As a graphic design major, she was particularly interested in placing these ideas into a context of digital communication and experience. More of her work can be seen at her website, sanashepko.com
